One of the main concepts that influences my work is the environmental impact of humans over consumption, an in a way, our over creation. Where I can I try to find secondhand or discarded materials to work with. 'Fishing Vessels' was a project I worked on as an artist in residence at the Icelandic Textile Centre in September. The pieces are crocheted baskets made entirely from discarded polyethylene rope found here in Australia and in Iceland. Many of these plastic pieces were found around beaches and water ways where they can have a devastating effect on marine animals and birds.
